SUMMARY

SYNOPSIS

The undefeated ‘Sorcerer’ King of the Wagadu warrior-clans, SUMANGURU, is encircling former allied Chiefdoms on his misguided path to ‘save’ the dying WAGADU Empire. Abandoning an old pact-of-peace with neighboring Chiefdoms, Sumanguru attacks former allies to 'fulfill his destiny' - 'unite' the waning WAGADU empire and control critical gold-trade routes in the Western Sahara.

In this upside down world, we meet DJATA, a teenage Prince with ‘bones as brittle as reeds’ and physically challenged. Underestimated, he is unwittingly thrust into a high-stakes game of power, deception, and epic battles, though all he wants is to impress the girl he likes, but most importantly to gain his father’s respect.

When Sumanguru's dark shadow blocks the sun over Djata's homeland of KANGABA, treachery rears its ugly head, and Djata is thrust into exile, where he must learn to survive outside of the comfort of his Father’s protection. He must build his own confidence to unleash the warrior within himself. Alongside a band of former school allies, Djata works through and triumphs physical setbacks, eventually becoming a legend, leading daring campaigns against Sumanguru's forces. The path to reclaiming his father’s kingdom is fraught with more betrayal, heartbreaking loss, and shocking revelations of secrets that were hidden in plain sight.

This history based fiction is an action-packed saga of courage, culture and camaraderie, centering the rise of the legendary west African warrior who possessed the spirit of The Lion. The Prince whose determination to know and serve his people built the leader they needed, raising the man who would become the celebrated first ‘MANSA’ or Emperor of the Great Mali Empire in 1250 C.E. West Africa.
